Mexico is a great destination for your next holidays. If you are ready to spend your days relaxing under the blazing sun, discovering ancient ruins amidst a lush environment or just tour the great cultural heritage of the country, Mexico will not disappoint you. One of the gems of Central America, this is a very large country that offers a variety of interesting regions for the tourist that knows what he or she is looking for. This diversity provides for a wide array of vacation spots. One of its highlights are the 9000 km of beaches that enjoy warm temperatures throughout the year. International travellers flock to the beaches and most seaside resorts. New and exciting places await you!

Let’s face it, if you’re looking for the true sunny paradise and staying at a hotel Los Angeles (a list of which you can find here) just doesn’t cut it any more, you might as well take a trip down south and prepare for the holiday of a lifetime.

For most people coming to Mexico there are three distinct areas or locations that set the stage for a particular kind of holiday:

The most popular of these areas is the Yucatan peninsula. The peninsula encompasses a beautiful area known as the Riviera Maya (or also the Caribbean Riviera.) The rivera combines the classic allure of the beach with a taint of things of the past.

The white-sand beaches bathed with sapphire blue waters and covered by the warm embrace of sunny afternoons and the Mayan ruins of old. Hidden treasures and markers of lives long past are both the main crowd pullers of the area. The most popular destinations within the Yucatan peninsula include Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and other gorgeous beach towns and islands (such as Cozumel.)

The second of these popular areas is known as the Mexican Riviera. Truly a paradise for the sand seeker, the zone is home to a huge swatch that spans over 2,000 miles of the Pacific coast located between Ensenada and Acapulco. If you’re already thinking about getting the chill you got by staying at hotels in Chicago (need help finding hotels? check here) out of your bones, do remember that the distances between each major resort area on the Mexican Riviera are pretty big. Bearing that in mind, don’t plan to explore the whole area in a single vacation as it will only add frustration and stress. The whole idea of the trip is to relax after all. If you are tempted and have some money to spare, the absolute best way to enjoy the riviera is by taking a cruise. You can fend off the big distances while you gently sail through the waters on a luxurious boat and then hit a port to spend some time on key locations. If you’re looking for an extended land vacation, the best places are these: Cabo San Lucas, the Puerto Vallarta area and Ixtapa.

The last location in this short review is an area that runs down the centre of the country and includes places such as Copper Canyon, Morelia and Mexico City. A route that is very successful with those tourists who are looking for the best cultural experience, it doesn’t lack in breath-taking places to enjoy while you explore it. If you are looking for those special, once-in-a-lifetime landscapes, I would suggest taking a trip to Copper Canyon. The Copper Canyon (called such because of the colour of its walls) is actually a group of canyons consisting of at least 6 different canyons that was formed by six rivers which drain the western side of the Sierra Tarahumara. This canyon system is at least seven times larger (and in portions deeper) than the Grand Canyon located in Arizona, United States. Make sure you don’t miss it.
